Artist's Bio
Born and raised in Vancouver, BC ("Yay CANADA!"), Vera grew up being
involved in children's musicals and high school plays which probably helped her
overcome shyness. After a couple of years in college denying any talent or
future possibilities in Theatre, Vera finally gave in to auditioning to the
Simon Fraser University Theatre Program where she committed 5 gruelings years
learning actor and the Theatre. During those years, she was the Drama Director
for Fraserlands Community Church that was built as a 500-seat theatre house.
Upon graduating with a BFA in Theatre, she landed her first professional theatre
performance at Pacific Theatre as "Bea" in A View From the Brigde in which the
cast was entirely Asian-Canadian. Vera then moved to Seattle where she spent a
number of years acting and directing. The shows included OPM, Welcome to the
Wongs, West Side Story, Gold Watch, Passion, and Rancho Grande ("Ugh"). Vera
also has had a one-woman show that she hopes to expand from it's 30 minute
existence to a full-length play. The show is called Fading Into the Landscape
where Vera uses her own identity to explore the different issues and faces of
identity; FITL has thankfully been performed at many different venues in both
Vancouver and Seattle. Vera's teaching experiences and residencies have been at
NWAAT, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Taproot Theatre, and currently Bellevue Community
College.
