Production Notes
Director's Notes
I first read The Hasty Heart back in 1983
and it remains one of my favorite American classics.
John Patrick's poignant story, inspired by his
experiences as an ambulance driver in Burma during
World War II, has pleased audiences fo nearly
sixty years, and we're delighted to bring it back
to Seattle.
The themes in this touching and tender tale still
resonate, particularly in light of recent world
events. Tragically for Lachie, it would take medical
science a decade after this play was written to
achieve the first successful kidney transplant
and nearly another fifteen years after that before
the advent of kidney dialysis. And although uermic
poisoning is no longer a serious issue today,
tragically for us, humanity has certainly no shortage
of other diseases and ailments to contend with...not
to mention the "nasty business" of war. We hope
that you enjoyed our production and live your
life to the fullest as long as you can.
--David Hsieh, Director of The Hasty Heart
"Everything I needed to know I learned from THE HASTY HEART"
- It is better to give than to receive.
- Share yourself with your fellow man, we'll all be the richer for it.
- Be careful.
- Don't run from a challenge.
- Loneliness can be dreadful.
- If something is worth having, it's worth sticking your neck out for.
- Don't value your friends lightly.
- Live life to the fullest.
- Don't wear shoes without socks, you'll get corns.
- Invest in real estate.
