Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center, May 5 - 29, 2005: ReAct Theatre, Seattle's only Multi-ethnic Philanthropic Theatre Company bounces back from recent burglary losses with the Seattle professional premiere of KIMBERLY AKIMBO, the recent Off-Broadway hit comedy by award-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, the author of Fuddy Meers, A Devil Inside and Wonder of the World.
What if you were sixteen and over the hill? Set in the wilds of suburban New Jersey, meet Kimberly, a teenager with a rare genetic disease which ages her over four times faster than normal. But that's not her only problem...she has to contend with her hypocondriac pregnant mom, her rarely sober dad, her scam artist lesbian aunt, her own mortality, and, most terrifying of all, the possibility of first love. Don't miss this funny yet poignant black comedy about family dysfunctions, love, broken dreams and the ravages of time.
KIMBERLY AKIMBO opens on Thursday, May 5th at 7:30pm, and plays Friday nights at 8:00pm, Saturday nights at 8:00pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:00pm. All performances will be held at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center, located at 104 Seventeenth Avenue S, on the corner of 17th and Yesler in Seattle. Free parking is available throughout the neighborhood or in the Langston Hughes parking lot located on the southeast corner of the complex.
Ticket prices are $12 General Admission; $9 Students/Seniors/Military/Disabled; and $6 for Children. Due to strong language, parental guidance is suggested. Additionally, ReAct's first 2:00pm Sunday Matinee on Mother's Day, May 8th is a "Pay-What-You-Can" performance. For more information and ticket reservations, please call the ReAct box office at (206) 364-3283 or visit online at www.reacttheatre.org. Advanced tickets are also available though Ticket Window: (206) 325-6500, www.ticketwindowonline.org, fax: (425)450-3839.
Directed by ReAct's Artistic Director, David Hsieh, this haunting and hilarious piece stars Diane Felty, Roberta Plonski, Adam Sewall, Ellen Dessler and Michael Scott. Stage Management by Jenn Fjosne, with scenic design by Craig Wollam, lighting by Elizabeth Coco and Sound design by Andrew Chin.
Established in 1993, ReAct strives to provide affordable quality entertainment using primarily non-traditional and multi-ethnic casting. Its purpose is to give artists of all backgrounds the opportunity to work on mainstream projects they might not normally have access to due to ethnicity, gender, or experience. A federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit philanthropic company, ReAct also works to service our community by using its productions to raise money, awareness and supplies for other arts and humanitarian organizations. This is ReAct's first mainstage production with Equity contracts, inspite of recent financial setbacks with the theft losses of expensive audio-visual equipment during their recent production of Neil LaBute's THE SHAPE OF THINGS at the Richard Hugo House in March.
